Charter Revision Board Talks Refining the Rezoning Process

There's talk of setting up a planning commission in the county but not everyone agrees, according to a report in The Capital.

Less than a month after the Anne Arundel County Council , a separate county board is discussing changing the way it does business.

The Charter Revision Commission met Friday to talk about smoothing the rezoning process, according to The Capital.

The decennial comprehensive rezoning process took up much of the County Council's meeting times throughout the year. The longest lines were formed by residents testifying over rezoning proposals in District 5 (includes Broadneck and Severna Park) and District 7 (includes Edgewater, Gambrills and Davidsonville).

Spreading the workload out among a separate zoning panel might ease the burden. At least, that's the idea.

County Planning and Zoning Officer Larry Tom said a board similar to the city of Annapolis' Planning Commission wouldn't necessarily streamline the county's process because the county operates differently.
