Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Now that Halloween is over, if you are staring at piles of candy thinking "I can not let my kids eat all this," there's a solution for you. Local dentists are buying back candy from kids and sending it to troops overseas for Operation Gratitude. Participating dentists send 60,000 holiday care packages overseas, according to their <a href="http://www.halloweencandybuyback.com/about.html" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">website</a>. Last year, they received and shipped 125 tons of candy. Kids can bring their leftover candy to a participating dentist and they will either buy it back for $1 a pound or give out "goody bags" with dental hygiene products, coupons from local businesses, and/or entries into a drawing for a special prize. The closest dentist to the Broadneck area participating in the program is Stewart and Labbe Orthodontics, at 114 Forbes St. in Annapolis.
