Poll Results: Academic Pressures Piling Up at Schools

Most people in our poll responded that students are overwhelmed by pressure at schools.

Broadneck parents responded to our poll on students grappling with increased academic pressures.

Last week, , being shown at . Parents and faculty responded to the movie saying that it was a good way to let parents know what a modern high schooler experiences in and outside the classroom.

In our poll, 80 percent said students are overwhelmed by academic pressures, and 20 percent said they were not.

After the article ran last week, I got in touch with BHS psychologist Margaret Cannon who said the movie reinforced several of the issues of coping with pressure that she's seen herself among students.

"Parents were touched by it and stirred. High school is different now. It's hard to explain that to parents sometimes, but trust meβ€”it's not like it used to be," Cannon said.

"I don't know how these kids are supposed to do it," she said. "I think a large majority of them simply don't want to play the game, they don't want to be in this totally stressed out mode, so they go the other direction and not take school seriously."
