Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Broadneck residents, Patch wants to know how you feel about Congress reaching a deal Sunday night to avert a national default. According to the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/31/debt-ceiling-deal_n_914538.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Huffington Post</a>, the proposal calls for a first round of cuts totaling $917 billion over the next 10 years and would allow President Barack Obama to raise the debt ceiling by $900 billion that would carry the government through the end of the year. A new joint congressional committee would be charged with coming up with $1.5 trillion in additional cuts and present its plan to Congress by Thanksgiving. If the committee fails to enact savings, the measure requires $1.2 trillion of automatic cuts, split equally between military and domestic programs.
