The physical education teacher that was escorted out of Magothy River Middle school last week has been reassigned to work at the school system's Central Office in Annapolis. Officials have been tight-lipped as to why Jon "Tony" Prunesti was removed from the school. School spokesperson Maneka Monk said this is being done while two investigations are ongoing. County police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy said the incident was "medical in nature," but could not comment further.

Members of the Anne Arundel County School Board adopted capital and operating budgets for fiscal year 2013 with only one opposer.Β The operating budget includesΒ funding forΒ 62 new teaching positions, and weighs in at $986.2 million, which is about $50 million more than last year.

The budget now moves to the county level, where County Executive John Leopold and his staff will review it, then put it before the Anne Arundel County Council for a vote.

Ladd Uses Racial Slur, Apologizes During Meeting

A county councilman apologized for using a racial slur during a public meeting Thursday, while relating old war stories.Β Β County Councilman Dick Ladd (R-5th District), ofΒ Broadneck, was joking with councilman when he used a racial slur, calling the East Asian opposition "gooks." He later apologized, saying he it was a term from his past, and he spoke without thinking.

Annapolis Man Faces Multiple Charges in Domestic Incident

An Annapolis man forced his former girlfriend to go with him to an ATM machine in Crofton to withdraw money on Sunday, according to Anne Arundel County police.Β Marvin Mareco Redding Jr., 30, faces multiple charges in the incident that was reported to police by the victim around 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the High's store near Bay Dale Drive in Annapolis.

5 Broadneck-Area Teachers are Semifinalists for Teacher of the Year

One-third of the 15 teachers named as semifinalists for this year's Teacher of the Year award are from Broadneck-area schools.Β The list of teachers will be narrowed down to five finalists before a winner is chosen to represent Anne Arundel County in the Maryland Teacher of the Year Awards.
