Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. The Broadneck High School marching band performed its 2012 show, "Steel," at Arundel High School on Friday. The performance was uploaded to YouTube during the weekend. Marching band director Matt Heist told Patch the show was themed around the strength of steel. "We go through the actual making of it in the mill to the power of what it creates. The concept is exciting and the students are enjoying the challenge of the music," Heist said. The band is participating in numerous marching competitions around the state this fall, including its own tournament on Oct. 13. The Marching Bruins also will take part in <a href="http://www.yea.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&amp;id=20697&amp;news_iv_ctrl=1402#.UDO4kkRj64U" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">the USBands national championships in November</a> at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the home of the NFL's New York Jets and Giants.
