What's for Dinner?

I recently read an article that reports that 1/3 of Americans don't know how to cook. One out of three.

I was blessed to grow up in an Italian household.  So much time was spent in the kitchens of my parents and grand-parents, that I almost learned how to cook through osmosis.

I joke to this day about the force-feeding by my Italian grandmother, and the holiday meals that kept us at the table for hours.  Some of my fondest memories involve learning to bake with my mom's mom.

So, I guess that's why I get a little sad about so many people's inexperience with cooking.  It seems like they may be missing out on memory-making, too.

I'm thinking of building a tradition -- revisiting the Sunday supper, sitting around the table with family and friends, breaking out the good china, reconnecting the way I learned to do it.

What do you think about home-cooked meals?  What are the challenges?  What are the rewards?  And, what's for dinner at YOUR house?
