Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Cambridge Passes Permanent Curfew for Minors (wmdt.com) — Cambridge has made its nighttime curfew for kids under 16 permanent, running 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on school nights and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekends to address youth violence. City leaders and police say crime has dropped since 2022, and they emphasize holding both teens and parents accountable while hoping the curfew can eventually be repealed.
2. Cambridge library to temporarily close next year, Friends of the Library book sales postponed until further notice (wboc.com) — Cambridge's Dorchester County Public Library branch on Gay Street will close for six to eight weeks starting January 2027 to replace damaged ground-level flooring and improve accessibility and safety. During the closure, residents can use the Hurlock branch and 24/7 book locker, but Friends of the Library book sales and donations are paused until repairs are finished, with sales expected to resume in spring 2027.
3. Cambridge commisioners approve senior tax relief, warns of rising water rates (somdnews.com) — Cambridge seniors will soon see a 10% annual real property tax credit restored on their primary homes, following a new ordinance adopted by the City Council. At the same time, residents are being warned to expect a $5–$10 monthly increase in unified utility bills within six months as the city tackles long-deferred water and sewer infrastructure repairs.
4. Winter #MACoCon Registration Isn't Open Yet - But Here's How You Can Prepare (mdcounties.org) — Cambridge will host MACo's high-demand Winter Conference at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in January 2027, bringing county and state officials from across Maryland to town. Local hotels, including the Holiday Inn Express Cambridge, will see increased bookings, while organizers urge attendees and exhibitors to set up Engagifii accounts and prepare early for registration and sponsorship opportunities.
