🌱 818 Market Closes After RRF + Maryland Lottery Corrupt? + Bike Ride
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Catonsville.

Hey, Catonsville. I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town.
First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy, showers around. High: 73 Low: 63.
Here are the top three stories today in Catonsville:
- The 818 Market in Catonsville, which opened in 2020, received almost $900,000 in 2021 from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) and then closed in 2022. Due to the COVID-19 virus, restaurants had much fewer customers and no dining rooms. The RRF allocated billions of dollars in grants to help struggling businesses survive. According to the Baltimore Sun analysis of U.S. Small Business Administration data on Baltimore-area restaurants, more than a dozen restaurants shut down since receiving grants last year. (Baltimore Sun)
- According to the state legislative audit of Maryland's Lottery Agency, the same people keep winning the Maryland lottery's top prizes. For example, the audit found that "in a one-year period, eight players had won top lottery prizes 200 or more times" and in the state's Pick 4 game, auditors found one player had claimed the game's $5,000 top prize 79-times in one year. Christine Moore, a regular lottery player in Catonsville, said, "I want to know how did they cheat and do it because you have so many people who haven't won once." (Fox Baltimore)
- On Saturday, Aug. 13, 15 bike riders participated in the 14-mile mid-morning, two-hour guided bike ride called the "Catonsville Rails to Trails." The ride goes to the Patapsco State Park from the #8 Streetcar Path and then back again. (Baltimore Sun)
