Here are the top stories in Catonsville today:

  1. The Baltimore County Police Department has been nationally recognized for maintaining a "gold standard" in policing for the 11th time since 1984. The department has been awarded Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), a competitive award that signifies excellence in public safety and commitment to the community. "This award epitomizes the collective effort of the CALEA Team and the department's continuance work to evaluate, adopt, and submit for review the industry's best practices and policies," said BCPD Captain Lamont Martin. 2. A new local art project is preserving an important piece of Baltimore's past. The Catonsville Rails to Trails nonprofit and its volunteer crew have helped restore a mural of the long-lost No. 8. Streetcar path, a popular local line between Towson and Catonsville that was shut down in 1963. The organization added a portrait of the streetcar's longtime operator, Berley Roberts Sr., remembered as one of the region's first Black transit conductors. (Baltimore Magazine)
  3. The Catonsville Senior Center Council will be collaborating with the Community College of Baltimore County to offer several 10-week fitness courses to senior citizens in Catonsville from January to March 2022. Course registration opens today. Any interested parties can call CCBC's call center at 443-840-4900 and ask to register for the CRN number associated with the class they would like to take.
