Bridesmaids: The Next Best Comedy Film
This movie is hilarious and will be in theaters next Friday, May 13. Anyone who is a fan of "The Hangover" or "Superbad" will love it!
A few weeks ago, my boss handed out passes to see pre-screening of a film I had never heard of: “Bridesmaids." When I saw the pass, I recognized a lot of the actors, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Rose Bryn, and Melissa McCarthy, all women with hilarious backgrounds. Even though I’d never heard of it, I figured I had nothing to lose; free movie, funny actors, it just had to be good.
The movie follows two best friends, Annie and Lillian. In the beginning of the film Lillian and her boyfriend get engaged and she asks Annie to be her maid of honor. Annie’s love life is far less than perfect; in fact her life seems to be a mess as a whole. She’d opened a bakery, but couldn’t maintain it during the recession. Having lost her shop, she also lost her boyfriend. Now she’s in a “relationship” with Ted, who only wants her around for sex and doesn’t even like her to sleep over. Annie’s car is an old run-down piece of junk that needs its’ taillights to be replaced, but she can’t even afford her rent.
At Lillian’s graduation party, Annie meets the other bridesmaids, one of whom claims to be Lillian’s best friend. Helen met Lillian through Lillian's fiancés’ job and formed an instant bond, much to Annie’s’ disliking. As the maid of honor, Annie has to plan many things, including the bachelorette party. She tries to convince the rest of the girls that going to Lillian’s family’s lake house is the most affordable option, but Helen overrides her decision and decides on Vegas for everyone. At this point, I had thought that this would be a female version of “The Hangover” and was a little wary; I’m not a big fan of copycats. However I was pleasantly surprised to see Annie go crazy on the plane and be forced (via air marshal) to return home by bus.

After this incident Lillian gives the planning over to Helen. When Helen steals Annie’s Parisian idea for a bridal shower, this pushes Annie over the edge. Throughout the film Annie runs into a police officer named Officer Rhodes whom she eventually develops a real relationship with, through the fog of her complicated life.
This film had my abs hurting and my eyes watering all throughout. Not only was it hilarious, but you could also relate to it.m I know that if some girl started telling me she was best friends with my best friend, I would have lost it as well. The movie will be in theaters on May 13. Anyone who wants the next best comedy, has to go see it.
