Good day, people of Catonsville! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Catonsville Daily.

First, today's weather:

Turning sunny and windy. High: 43 Low: 14.

Here are the top 3 stories in Catonsville today:

  1. COVID-19 cases have more than tripled in Baltimore County Public Schools as more than 2,000 students tested positive for the virus last week. Prior to winter break, there were just 695 reported positive cases. Over 1,000 recent cases came from BCPS elementary schools, where fewer students are fully vaccinated due to their age. (WYPR)
  2. Police are looking for the suspect who fatally shot a woman at Catonsville Plaza Shopping Center on Thursday afternoon. Baltimore County officers responded to the shopping center on Baltimore National Pike around 1 p.m. A female victim with multiple gunshot wounds was pronounced dead on the scene. Neither the victim nor the suspect has been identified by the police at this time. (FOX Baltimore)
  3. Stephen H. Sachs, who prosecuted the Catonsville Nine in the late 1960s, died Jan. 12 at 87 years old. He was a U.S. attorney for Maryland and later served two terms as Maryland's attorney general. Sachs gained national attention in 1968 when he prosecuted the Catonsville Nine, a group of Vietnam War protesters who stormed the Catonsville Selective Service office in an attempt to destroy draft records.
