Charlestown Receives Two Employer Excellence Awards

BALTIMORE, MD (October 17, 2013) -- Charlestown Retirement Community today was officially recognized as being one of Baltimore Business Journal's 2013 Best Places to Work. Charlestown placed in the Top 5 companies in the Large Business category. More than 100 companies in Maryland  were nominated in this year’s awards competition.

Finalists were selected based on results of regional employee surveys conducted among businesses during this past summer. Charlestown's 1,150 employees participated in the survey process. This honor coincides with The Arc Baltimore, in partnership with the Baltimore Business Journal, naming Charlestown an Employer of Distinction. This award recognizes Charlestown’s contributions to the Baltimore metropolitan community and those whom The Arc Baltimore supports – specifically the employment of Andrea Bernhard and Amy Struder.

“The Arc of Baltimore has provided two great employees, Amy and Andrea,” said Dennis Dawson, a restaurant manager at Charlestown. “Amy and Andrea have helped increase resident satisfaction in our Continuing Care dining room by providing outstanding customer service.  We are grateful for The Arc of Baltimore for their continuous support and for referring two exceptional team members.”

The Employer of Distinction Award was created to honor companies that have demonstrated that employing people with developmental disabilities has contributed to their company’s success.
