🌱 Giant Food's Discount Program + Schaefer's 100th Birthday
Catch up on everything new in Catonsville with Patch's daily newsletter.

Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Catonsville Daily.
First, today's weather:
Cooler; afternoon rain. High: 50 Low: 31.
Here are the top stories in Catonsville today:
- Grocery chain Giant Food is piloting a program at three D.C.-area stores with Toronto-based Flashfood to sell food it might otherwise have to throw away soon at a deep discount. Instead of throwing out food that is near its "best by" or "sell by" date, stores will mark the price down 50 percent off and send a notification to shoppers. Flashzones will initially be tested at the Catonsville, Ellicott City, and Falls Church locations. (WTOP)
- In celebration of what would have been politician William Donald Schaefer's 100th birthday, the Schaefer Center for Public Policy at the University of Baltimore is holding a celebration at the Inner Harbor today. The lifelong Democrat held roles as both the comptroller and governor of Maryland over his 50-plus year career in public service. Schaefer passed away in 2011 at the age of 89 in Catonsville. (Baltimore Fishbowl)
- Missing live music? Michael Grasso and the Not 2 Cool Jazz Band will be playing at Catonsville Farmers Market this Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Attendees can enjoy great food and great shopping. No cover charge is required. (AllEvents. In)
