Man Killed Trying to Save Dog on Frederick Road: Police

A pedestrian died after he was hit by a car on Frederick Road near River Road this week, Baltimore County police report.

A pedestrian died after he was hit by a car Monday on Frederick Road, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Paul Gutoski Johnson, 41, of Pasadena, stepped into the eastbound lane of Frederick Road near River Road to prevent his dog from going into the roadway, police said.

At approximately 10 a.m., a 2002 Toyota Solara hit Johnson, who was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, according to officials.

Police said the vehicle remained at the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.

The dog was not harmed.

Johnson was the sales manager at The Cycle Mill of Ellicott City, which posted a Facebook message calling him an "inspiring person to know" who was "living the dream."
