Mother And Child, 9, Killed In Fiery Crash Near Woodlawn: Police

Police said a 5-year-old girl is critical Friday after her mother and 9-year-old brother were killed Thursday night in a crash.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A woman and her 9-year-old son died in a crash in Woodlawn Thursday night, according to police. Her 5-year-old daughter remains hospitalized Friday in critical condition, according to authorities.

Tanja Tanesha Shields, 29, was headed west on Gwynn Oak Avenue approaching Park Drive around 11:05 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, when she lost control of her 2017 Nissan Altima, drove over a raised median into oncoming traffic and hit a tree, police said.

After the vehicle caught fire, officials reported that witnesses removed the people from the car.

Shields and her son, Khalil M. Wyche, 9, were taken to area hospitals, where they were pronounced deceased, according to authorities.

Nobody inside the car had on seat belts, and the children were not in car seats, according to authorities.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is looking into whether any other factors contributed to the deadly crash.
