Happy Friday, people of Catonsville! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

A.M. rain, then partly sunny. High: 65 Low: 41.

Here are the top stories in Catonsville today:

  1. The Baltimore County redistricting map has hit a wall as council members remain at an impasse about creating a second Black majority district. The American Civil Liberties Union is pushing for an additional district with a majority Black population to better represent the County's 30 percent overall Black population. However, some members are concerned that this redrawing would come at the expense of splitting up communities like Catonsville into two council districts, which they say can limit a community's influence. (WYPR)
  2. The Knights of Columbus' annual Coats for Kids program, which has been part of the Archdiocese of Baltimore for six years, distributed 200 new winter coats at Mother Mary Lange Catholic School in Baltimore this week. The goal of the program is to ensure no child goes without a coat during the winter season. The Knights of Columbus will also distribute 350 adult coats this winter to shelters to help people experiencing homelessness in Baltimore and Catonsville. (Catholic Review of Baltimore)
  3. On Sunday, Nov. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m., Catonsville Clubhouse (10 St Timothys Lane) will be hosting a book talk to discuss Terri Simon's poetry chapbook, "Ghosts of My Own Choosing." Simon's book was published by Flutter Press in 2017, and her work has appeared in The Avenue, Third Wednesday, Poetry Quarterly, Ariel Chart, Bay to Ocean 2019, and other print and online journals and anthologies. Visit bcartsguild.org to register for the talk. (Baltimore County Arts Guild)
