- New research in the INFORMS Journal, written by Catonsville's Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, found an algorithm meant to eliminate racial disparities in Airbnb revenue failed to enhance revenue equality. Airbnb had created a free, smart-pricing tool for its hosts as a way to promote racial equality, due to white hosts earning $12.16 more in daily revenue than Black hosts. However, the research found the algorithm's price recommendations are not affected by the host's race, but rather the tool's race blindness has resulted in unintended consequences that may lead to suboptimal pricing for Black hosts. - Towson's new free circulator buses began service on Tuesday, the first of many improvements to the county's transportation services. The Towson Loop, which is free to ride, includes a north-south Purple Loop and an east-west Orange Loop, intersecting at Towson Town Center. D'Andrea Walker, acting director of the county's Department of Public Works and Transportation, said Catonsville could be potential communities for future circulators. (Baltimore Fishbowl)
