UMBC Prepares For America East Basketball Tourney

The women are the No. 3 seed in this week's tournament, while the men come in at No. 6.

UMBC's basketball programs are headed to next weekend's America East basketball tournament in Hartford. 

The women finished the regular season with the No. 3 seed. UMBC lost to Binghamton last Saturday and finished with a 6-10 record in the conference, ending up in a four-way tie for third place, deadlocked with Stony Brook, New Hampshire and Vermont.

But the America East web site said UMBC gets the No. 3 seed becaue of it had a 4-2 record against the other three teams tied for third.

Stony Brook (fourth), New Hampshire (fifth) and Vermont (sixth) are the other seeds. UMBC will meet Vermont Friday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The Retirevers finished an injury-filled regular season with a 10-19 record. 

The men snapped a six-game losing streak with their win over Binghamton Sunday and will be the No. 6 seed. They'll meet No. 3 seed Hartford on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.

UMBC ended the regular season with a 7-22 overall record. The Retrievers were 5-11 in America East action.
