February is Black History Month, but it will be shamefully ignored by our government.
When President Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked by reporters how the month will be officially observed, she had no answer.
That is because there will be no observance other than an obligatory proclamation signed by Trump.
Our government's disregard of Black History Month is the beginning of Trump's agenda to ban programs promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
He signed an executive order that criminalizes DEI. He, without evidence, blamed DEI hiring as the cause of the American Airlines-military helicopter mid-air collision that left 67 people dead in the icy waters of the Potomac River.
The Defense Agency banned DEI events to comply with Trump's executive order. Other government agencies will do the same.
Make no mistake: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of equality for all people is far more powerful than Trump.
Each us today must resolve to do whatever needs to be done to make that dream a reality.
We must go forward together with renewed energy and hope. Our future is now.
