WEAA 88.9 FM Names Ricardo Ramsey its 2014 "Volunteer of the Year"

Morgan State University’s WEAA 88.9 FM radio station has named  Ricardo Ramsey, a Gatehouse Security Officer for Charlestown retirement community, its 2014 “Volunteer of the Year.” The award recognizes the year-round support Ramsey gives to the radio station by volunteering during membership fundraisers and by helping with various community initiatives the station is involved with such as toy and clothing drives. The award also recognizes Ramsey’s extensive community service.

Ramsey has been involved with his children’s PTAs ever since they were in pre-Kindergarten. He is presently the Health and Safety Chairman of Southwest Academy Magnet School (6th - 8th grade). He has served as Chairman of the school’s Male Mentoring Committee and its Health and Safety Committee. He has organized fundraisers for the school and will be hosting the school’s Athletic Banquet in May and its 8th grade Farewell Dance in June, which will be held at Charlestown.

Ramsey is a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Catonsville where he serves in the College and Men's Ministry. He recently became involved with the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters organization and has begun training to become a Big Brother.

Ramsey returned to Morgan State University two years ago to complete his Bachelor Degree in Human Resources. He holds an Associate Degree in Occupational Safety and Health Management from the Community College of Baltimore County. He is an Associate Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

Ramsey is married and has a 13-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.
