5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 7

Little bites of news you just can't live without.

Good morning, College Park! Here's today's serving of 5 Things:

1. In case you missed it, yesterday we began our coverage of this week's mayor and council worksession that took place on Tuesday. They discussed possibilities for making the city's easier to understand, and the beer and wine license for a coming to town in August.

2. The Meals on Wheels program in College Park, which provides food for elderly and disabled who can't prepare meals themselves, is in dire need for more volunteers, according to the group's treasurer. Check back later on Patch for the story.

3. Eighty-one years ago today, construction of the Hoover Dam began over the Colorado River. The five-year project was intended to prevent flooding and provide irrigation and hydroelectric power.

4. Today's Featured Facebook Page belongs to Everyday Quilts. "We truly believe that quilts are to be used and loved every day, that's why our motto is: Quilts for Every Reason and Every Season!" the info page reads. The wall is only semi-active, but it includes great pictures of products.
