2 Injured As Metro Train Derails In College Park, Officials Say

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Eleven people were evacuated from a Metro train after it derailed in College Park on Saturday, officials said.

All of the passengers were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene of the derailment, which happened about 11:50 a.m. near the 4900 block of Calvert Road, the Prince George's Fire Department said.

One car of the 3000-series train was affected, Metro officials said.

One man was taken to a hospital for treatment, and one other person refused transport, fire officials said.

Metro officials said its crews were investigating it as potentially heat-related. They said none of the injuries were serious.

The derailment is affecting service. Metro officials said trains on the Green/Yellow Line are single tracking between Hyattsville Crossing and College Park. Yellow Line trains are operating between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square only, to minimize train traffic.

"Use the Green Line to continue your trip," Metro officials said.

Passengers will continue to experience delays during the investigation, officials said.

People also can use the Metro bus lines: Route P14 for travel between Greenbelt (Bus Bay F) and College Park (Bus Bay A) and route P10 for travel between College Park (Bus Bay F) and Hyattsville Crossing (Bus Bay D), officials said.
