• Masked Man Arrested After Pointing Gaming Gun At UMD Students: Police (patch.com) — College Park residents learned that University of Maryland Police arrested a 40-year-old D.C. man who allegedly drove aggressively around campus in a white van while masked and pointing a realistic-looking gaming rifle at people. Officers stopped him near Union Drive and Alumni Drive, confirmed the weapon was for video games, found no ongoing threat, but still charged him with assault, reckless endangerment, threat of mass violence, and disrupting school activities.
   

• University of Maryland opens quantum Discovery Center with Microsoft as investment hits $500m (edtechinnovationhub.com) — College Park just gained a major boost as Microsoft opened a quantum research center inside the new Discovery Center, anchoring Maryland's $500 million‑plus Capital of Quantum initiative. The building now hosts international quantum companies, UMD startups, and the Quantum Startup Foundry, and will also help welcome visitors for the 2026 Quantum World Congress taking place in College Park.
