Looking for an opportunity to help abused or abandoned children in your community? Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/Prince George’s County recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for the needs of children living in foster care. Volunteers spend about 10 hours per month visiting with a child and collaborating with other adults protecting the child to ensure his or her needs are met and a safe permanent home is found.
There is also a great need for volunteers to work with youth aged 16 and up. When children enter foster care, the goal is to find them a safe permanent home as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, each year thousands of young people simply “age out” of the foster care system. Many of these youth must prepare to leave the system without a caring adult to help guide them on their journey into adulthood. By advocating for their needs in the courts and the community, these volunteers will play a powerful role in helping youth in foster care to successfully enter adulthood.
This is a great opportunity for adults 21 and older who have extra time to commit to advocating for a youth who needs a consistent champion on his or her side. A college degree is not necessary. Applications for our Fall Evening Training are now being accepted until 10/05/12.
