Shameless postcards from shameless landlords
The landlord initiative petition campaign continues to deteriorate.
In my I expressed profound doubt that the initiative petition circulated by the landlord lobby -- excuse me, the "Prince George's Property Owners Association" -- was honest. Behind a wall of blather about discrimination by race, gender, and sexual orientation (all of it a complete distraction) the effect of their petition is to prohibit not just rent control but also annual inspection of rental properties. I wondered how many signers of the petition knew what the real effect of it would be.
This post has become the center of a great many comments in which landlord Jon Gulbuny admits that this would be the effect of the petition, tries to explain how immensely unjust it is to inspect his property for health and safety violations, and tries to ignore the point that the petition writers were disguising their intentions from the voters. But the PGPOA itself doesn't like that approach. The yellow postcard that the voters received from them doesn't try to defend the elimination of rental inspections. It denies that their petition would do this, which is simply false. So they have gone beyond simply trying to con the suckers, they are now flat-out lying to them.
Fellow suckers, what say you?
