College Park Community Foundation Looks to Form Steering Committee
Those interested in joining the steering committee can meet at IHOP on May 17.

Residents are preparing to form a steering committee for a new community-support foundation in College Park.
College Park residents have been meeting for months, defining the mission and goals of the formed in 2011. City Councilman Patrick Wojahn (Dist. 1), who’s been spearheading the effort, said the next step is to form a steering committee.

"We've had a number of meetings of interested residents to put some ideas together, but this is our effort to actually form a steering committee that will bring the Foundation to the next level," Wojahn wrote in an email.
Steering committee members will be asked to make a financial contribution to the foundation, which will be later supplemented by fundraising. Funds will be allocated to support community-based programs, projects and activities, according to the foundation website.

Organizers looked to the Greenbelt Community Foundation for advice and ideas. Since its inception, the GCF has awarded grants from $500 to $5,000 to start or support various nonprofit projects, like the farmers market, Greenbelt Elementary School's sixth grade chorus and the 2009 Utopia Film Festival, .
