College Park Man Involved in Serious Crash: Police

Three were hospitalized after two-vehicle crash Saturday night; police said one driver was from College Park.

Three people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on MD 32 Saturday night in Howard County, police reported. The highway was closed in both directions for approximately three hours as officials investigated the crash, which involved a passenger car and a pickup truck, the latter driven by a College Park man, according to police.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. on Saturday, police said a Honda Civic that had been on the shoulder of eastbound Route 32 was attempting to make a U-turn when it was hit by a pickup truck.

Civic driver Manal Elamir Abdalla, 27, of Woodlawn, and passenger Sara Kidane Hailu, 24, of Columbia, were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition, police reported.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Ford F-250—Jose Vicente Diaz Vargas, 34, of College Park—was uninjured, according to the report. Police said his passenger Octavio Romero, 36, of Hyattsville, was taken to Howard County General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Route 32 was closed between Route 108 and Linden Church Road for approximately three hours, according to police, who said the investigation was ongoing.
