The National Museum of Language is becoming a vital part of the cultural scene in College Park. The Annual Dinner is an opportunity to find out what the museum has done over the past year and learn about plans for the future. It's also a great chance to meet language professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Our keynote speaker: Dr. Charles Stansfield
As a charter member of ACTFL and TESOL, Dr. Stansfield’s career now marks 43 years of professional involvement. He will review how the field has changed over that period, making some observations and recommendations for the future.
Dr. Stansfield is President of Second Language Testing, Inc. He has been a secondary school teacher of Spanish, a tenured professor of Spanish and teacher trainer, a test program administrator at Educational Testing Service, director of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics, and director of the Division of Foreign Language Education and Testing at the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, DC. He has developed and published proficiency tests in English as a second language and in 15 other languages. He is an inaugural member of NML’s National Advisory Council.
At 2:00 p.m. a reception with snacks and a cash bar will start off the program. During this time a silent auction will be held featuring items donated by our generous area merchants and NML Board Members and friends. There will be entry forms circulated for the door prize drawing and dinner, followed by the keynote address.
Entree Choices: 1) Baked Chicken with Fine Herbs 2) Herb-Crusted Salmon 3) Vegetarian Lasagna. Entrees will be served with tossed green salad, baked potatoes, vegetable medley, rolls, and coffee, tea or ice tea & chocolate mousse for dessert.
