Last Remaining Players for the US in Citi Open Eliminated in Semifinals

Championship rounds in the Women's Tennis Association tournament in College Park take place Sunday.

In Saturday's Citi Open action, 18-year-old Sloane Stephens of Plantation, Florida and 21-year-old Irina Falconi of Atlanta, Georgia were both eliminated from the , taking place at the Tennis Center at College Park.

They were the last remaining players representing the U.S. in the tournament, Stephens in doubles competition and Falconi in singles.

Nadia Petrova of Russia and of Israel have survived a single-elimination competition over the past eight days, as a field of 32 competitors was dwindled to two. Petrova and Peer will vie for the singles championship crown at 1 p.m. Sunday at the stadium court.

Sania Mirza of India and Yaroslava Shvedova of Russia beat the team of Peer and Stephens in doubles semifinals Saturday to move on to Sunday's championship. They will face the team of Olga Govortsova of Belarus and Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia at stadium court following the singles championship.
