Little Dude Robs Head Shop

I don't know how many businesses are on Baltimore Avenue, but the answer is certainly greater than one — which means the thief that struck the Bamboo Eater Tuesday evening definitely had more lucrative places to choose from when he decided to get his rob on.

Anywhere. Anywhere but the weed store. How much money could they have had on hand? They opened a store that they said catered to students and then planted it miles away, where most students can't really get to it. Also, the owners said they were having trouble opening the store because neither of them had cars. If they can't buy a '91 Camry to cart around their bongs, how are they going to help you pay that $10 grand you owe your bookie because you bet on the Steelers? Also in that linked article: the owners trying to explain that they have no idea how much their inventory is going to cost. These guys don't seem like the shrewdest businessmen in town. Mr. Robber, you probably didn't dive into a money pit Tuesday.

Also, if you are 5 feet 2 inches tall, , you should probably try sticking up somewhere without a tall counter. You probably looked foolish standing on your tiptoes in front of the register. Good move bringing the gun, though — if you weren't waving that thing around the cashier may have laughed himself to death. That's manslaughter.

But maybe "lucrative" wasn't what old Mr. Robber was going for. Maybe this was a better idea than it first appears. Maybe the police won't really look very hard for the guy who held up the head shop.

I'm not implying that the police don't protect and serve everyone. But it is certainly possible that there could be a certain disdain in the law enforcement community for a shop that overtly sells drug paraphernalia.

Yes, yes, I understand — you're a tobacco shop. But really — do enough college students roll their own cigarettes to keep you in business? Are they all so concerned with attaining an evenly burning cigarette to buy grinders for their tobacco? It's also hard to really claim you cater to tobacco smokers when your website claims you sell Rastafarian ceremonial pipes and you sign Facebook posts with "Keep munching."

The Bamboo Eater didn't deserve to get robbed. But we'll see how long it takes for police to find the short-stack who did it.
