Missing University of Maryland Student Found in Texas: Police

Kaitlyn George has been found 'and is okay' after disappearing for nearly a week, police reported Wednesday.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland student missing since last week was located in Texas, police reported Wednesday.

Kaitlyn George, 21, has been found and "she is okay," University of Maryland Police said in a statement Wednesday morning.

Police began investigating after George was reported missing nearly one week ago.

She left a building on campus in College Park before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, wearing a frame pack and carrying a pink bag, according to the University of Maryland Police Department.

The junior aerospace engineering major was supposed to be going camping with her boyfriend, according to a report in the campus newspaper the Diamondback. George never arrived and was reported missing.

Since then, she has been spotted in Federal Hill, at a bus station in Baltimore and in Houston, Texas.

Surveillance footage showed a white taxi picking up George on campus on Thursday, Nov. 10. The driver told authorities she was dropped off in front of a marina in Federal Hill. Security footage from the marina showed her getting into a white SUV that had been waiting, police reported.

A witness saw her on the Charm City Circulator at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, according to the University of Maryland Police Department. Later that day, surveillance footage from Baltimore's Greyhound station showed her boarding a bus bound for Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

The Houston Police Department confirmed George was at a Houston fast food restaurant in Texas after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, according to the University of Maryland Police Department.

"Kaitlyn was by herself and is okay," university police said in a statement about George's location in Texas.

Friends and relatives have said the disappearance was out of character for George.

Her family told WJZ she was being harassed before she went missing.
