MOSQUITO WORKSHOP AND ZIKA VIRUS PREVENTION

JUNE 20, 2016 AT 7:00 PM COLLEGE PARK CITY HALL 2ND FLOOR, COUNCIL CHAMBERS 4500 KNOX ROAD, COLLEGE PARK

Join us in welcoming Jeannine Dorothy, Entomologist with the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) as she educates us about the type of mosquitoes in our area, their habitat and diseases they might carry, as well as what you can do to help reduce the population of mosquitoes in your neighborhood.

The primary goal of the Mosquito Control Section of MDA is to prevent the occurrence of mosquito-borne disease in humans and domestic animals. When evidence of mosquito-borne disease is detected, measures are taken to reduce vector mosquito populations to as low a level as practical. Learn what these methods are.

  • Lifecycle of mosquitoes with a live larva and pupa display
  • What steps can be taken by individuals to reduce mosquito problems without pesticides
  • Using repellent products to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses including Zika virus, Dengue virus and West Nile virus, and encourage pet owners to have their dogs protected against heartworm disease
  • Pesticides used for mosquito control including larvicides and adulticides
