Celebrate the creations of Jim Henson, a University of Maryland Alumnus.

Every College Park-ian should know that today is opening day in theatres for The Muppets.

With Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppet characters having been an , it should be a point of pride for those of us in this area.

In fact, I dare say we're obligated to support the Muppets as they strive to become stars again. It's the movie plot, but I also feel it could be parallel to reality. The Muppet Movie ("Turn left at the fork in the road."), Muppet Christmas Carol and the TV show Muppet Babies have engrained the Muppets into our hearts forever. But it's been a while. Maybe it's time to reignite the love for the legendary felt characters -- even though, well, now Disney owns the rights to The Muppets.

In addition to the expected Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, and my favorites the Swedish Chef and angry Animal; newcomer muppet, Walter, will jump on board. What appears to be a grunge form of Miss Piggy also makes an appearance in the trailer.

Bringing, well, a human element to the show are the beautiful Amy Adams (Catch Me If You Can, Enchanted) and Jason Segel (Freaks and Geeks, Knocked Up), who also co-wrote the film.

And don't worry: The catchy "Mahna Mahma" lyrics will be there, too.
