The mighty Terp football team has a bye week -- what are all you Maryland sports fans doing to fill the void? Basketball doesn't start until October 15 and the Orioles are settled back into their annual October hibernation, so we have to go to the smaller, less televised sports like tennis, and, uh, I guess swimming. I guess.
Does anybody go to these events? I don't ask that facetiously, I'm just curious. I've had a lot of fun at both men's and women's soccer games, but they, like most of the teams this weekend, are on the road, with the women at Boston College Thursday night and the men at V-Tech Friday.
Women's volleyball is playing Friday night -- but nobody will be there. Their matches are held in a weird side room in the Comcast Center that resembles a better-maintained version of my high school gymnasium. I went to one of their matches and there were a few fans for either team and that was all she wrote.

Why is that? We've got a primo Division I program and, if you believe the Princeton Review, the best athletic facilities in the country. It's cheap and fun and you don't have to wear a tie.
If you're bored this weekend, consider checking out the Maryland athletics schedule and go to one of the games. Just pick one at random. Don't worry -- the cross country team isn't in town.
