UMd. Dispatcher Has Pro Bowling Dreams

Patch featured University of Maryland dispatcher, Andrew Pedrick alongside his dad, Brian Pedrick last month for . The two have been working the same nightshift together, receiving emergency calls and then directing police to the scenes.

But dispatching isn't 21-year-old Andrew Pedrick's passion. When he can, he is hitting up the bowling lanes, working toward what he hopes will become a professional career.

Not that he mentioned it during the interview. It was his father that first brought up Andrew's apparent talent and aspirations to compete for the Professional Bowlers Association.

"It is something that I want to do," Andrew then admitted.

Dispatching is somewhat of a security net, though.

"You have to do other avenues, and not just going out and bowling," his father said.

Thursday, the University of Maryland student paper followed up with the younger Pedrick to catch him in his element - at the lanes.

He hopes to be able to spend even more time bowling in the near future. Soon, he'll be able to switch from the nightshift to an early morning shift, opening up more practice time.

Even though it means the father and son won't be working the same shift anymore, Brian and Andrew Pedrick both said it should happen.

“His bowling comes first,” Brian Pedrick said.
