VIDEO: How To Bike Share

With the city's wish for a bike share program closer to reality through a recent state grant, residents can safely begin learning about how the program will work.

For years, College Park has been working to secure funding for a $468,724 bike-share program.

. The city and the University of Maryland will split the remaining $93,744. College Park's planning director said she expects College Park could be a part of the Capital Bikeshare program within about a year.

The Capital Bikeshare program was developed in Arlington and Washington in 2010, and commuters can currently rent 1,200 bicycles from any of the 140 stations in the cities, according to the website.

To participate in the bike-sharing program, commuters must buy a membership. The first 30 minutes of each trip is free, but each half hour after that requires an additional charge.
