12-Year-Old Charged in Columbia Library Holdup: Police

Two juveniles tried to rob a man at gunpoint in the East Columbia Library parking lot this week, according to police.

A 12-year-old Columbia boy was charged with robbery in connection with a holdup in the parking lot of the East Columbia Library this week, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police said that at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, a man was walking in the back of the library parking lot in the 6600 block of Cradlerock Way when two youths came up to him, one of them with a gun.

The pair demanded his belongings, and then both ran away, according to police, who said nothing was taken.

Officials said they identified a 12-year-old Columbia boy as a suspect and arrested him; the second suspect, who was approximately 13 years old, remains under investigation, police said.
