1K Students, Staff In Quarantine Because Of COVID: HCPSS

There are 1,148 students and 34 staff members with the Howard County Public School System in quarantine as of Nov. 16.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — As of Tuesday, Nov. 16, there are 1,148 students and 34 staff members with the Howard County Public School System in quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test or as a close contact. The district noted that close contact or quarantine does not indicate those students or staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

The school district releases these numbers weekly. According to the school district, these reported numbers reflect positive test results that have been self-reported to HCPSS. The data reflects the date HCPSS was notified of the positive case and not necessarily the date of the positive test result. There are more than 57,000 students enrolled at HCPSS and an estimated 5,000 staff members.

As of Nov. 16, Howard County has a total of 23,396 positive new COVID-19 cases; 11,564 active cases; and 268 deaths, according to the Howard County Health Department.
