2 Arrested During Crackdown On 6 Car Rallies Across 4 MD Counties

Law enforcement broke up six car rallies Sunday night in four counties, including Howard, and arrested two people.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Multiple large-scale illegal car rallies were dismantled by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force and partner law enforcement agencies Sunday, including in Howard, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties.

Law enforcement started breaking up the car rallies around 10 p.m. Sunday and focused on planned car meets, known as “chipeos,” happening on public roads, industrial zones and parking lots across the targeted counties. High visibility enforcement and patrols were conducted throughout the area, blocking crowds of up to 100 people from engaging in exhibition driving, disorderly behavior and roadway shutdowns, the Maryland State Police said.

Maryland State Police arrested and charged Jareb Rivera, 22, of Lanham with possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, possession of a handgun in a vehicle and possession of a handgun without a serial number. He was taken to the Prince George’s County Detention Center where he is waiting to be seen by a district court commissioner.

Troopers also arrested Reynaldo Prieto Gonzalez, 22, of Brooklyn for two outstanding warrants, both related to an assault in Baltimore City. He was taken to the Prince George’s County Detention Center, where he is waiting to be seen by a district court commissioner.
