21-Year-Old Passenger Killed After Car Crashes Into Tree: Howard County Police
A 21-year-old woman from Silver Spring was killed after the car she was riding in missed a traffic circle and hit a tree, police say.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A 21-year-old from Silver Spring died Monday in a single-vehicle crash that unfolded in Laurel.
Elisa Lopez Calix was a passenger in a 2017 Honda Accord that was heading east on Johns Hopkins Road near Route 29 shortly before 1 a.m. when it didn't negotiate a traffic circle and hit a tree. Calix was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead on the evening of June 5, according to the Howard County Police Department.
The driver, a man, also was taken to Shock Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
