MARYLAND — Fortnite Halloween costumes are on the top of everyone's mind this year. The breakout video game is the most popular choice amongst trick-or-treaters this season, according to Google Frightgeist — a list of the 500 most-searched Halloween costumes across the U.S.
The Frightgeist tool tracks all of the top trending costumes in every state and highlights towns with peak search interest.
These are the three most-Googled costumes in Maryland, according to Frightgeist:

- Fortnite (peak searches in Salisbury, Baltimore)
- Dinosaur
- Unicorn

While Fortnite is a virtual game, it does have a local tie.
Its creator — Tim Sweeney, 47 — grew up in Potomac and attended the University of Maryland. He reportedly started the game while working in his parents' basement.

The gamer has come a long way in the years since. On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Sweeney's company Epic Games was valued at almost $15 billion. It is based in Cary, North Carolina.
