3-Year-Old's Death Leads To Charges Against Mom, Boyfriend

COLUMBIA, MD — A mother and her boyfriend have been charged in the death of her 3-year-old child in March 2025.

Kathleen Amesbury, 28, of Columbia, and Dale Brown, Jr., 25, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, face charges of second-degree murder, first- and second-degree child abuse, involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a minor.

Police were contacted by hospital staff on March 26, 2025, after the 3-year-old was taken to the hospital by ambulance from a home in the 7200 block of Procopio Circle reportedly with severe injuries. The child was pronounced dead two days later.

After a year-long investigation, detectives determined that Amesbury and Brown were responsible for the child’s death, according to the Howard County Police. They were arrested in Pennsylvania Friday.
