30K Gallon Fire Suppression Tank Project To Help Howard County Fight Area Blazes

A 30,000-gallon fire suppression tank will be buried underground along Union Chapel Road. The tank is designed to provide water during fires

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A construction project to install a 30,000-gallon fire suppression tank adjacent to 15959 Union Chapel Road should begin Nov. 7.

Fire suppression water tanks provide dedicated sources of water intended to support automatic sprinkler and fire extinguishing systems. These tanks store large amounts of water for buildings that do not have access to municipal water, where water pressure and volume is inadequate to extinguish a fire or where it is the sole source of water.

This particular tank is not covered by the county’s water distribution system and will include a 60-foot-long by 30-foot-wide by 15-foot-high construction trench excavation to place the tank underground.

A concrete pad will be installed on top of the tank. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by late November 2022.

While the project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic in the area, signs will be posted near the project site to advise motorists and pedestrians of the construction.
