$3K In Goods Stolen From Columbia Mall, Rash Of Airbag Thefts Reported In Ellicott City

Macy's at Columbia Mall report $3K worth of goods stolen from the store; police report 8 airbags stolen from Ellicott City cars in 1 night.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Thieves walked away with more than $3,000 worth of merchandise from the Macy's in Columbia Mall last week.

In video recorded at the mall, suspects can be seen walking out with a trash bag filled with items police say has been valued at more than $3,000.

Macy's provided the following statement about the incident to WMAR:

At Macy's, the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority. We are working closely with the local police department and defer all comments about the case to them, per policy.

"To provide a secure and pleasant shopping environment, we have asset protection staff in our stores and cooperate with mall security and law enforcement agencies to address any potential risks," a spokesperson with Macy's told WMAR.

Meanwhile in Ellicott City, Howard County Police reported a rash of airbag thefts in the overnight of Dec. 7-8.

Howard County Police remind residents to always lock their vehicles. In some cases thieves will go ahead and break car windows, but often, they bypass locked vehicles after checking the door handles.

"We have seen this on home security camera video residents have provided to officers," the police department noted.
