3rd Annual Summer Series Continues Through August In Howard County

Amped in the Park, Good Kid-izen and Merriweather District Fit Series will run through August in downtown Columbia with more events and fun.

COLUMBIA, MD — There's plenty of time left to enjoy the third annual Summer Series held in downtown Columbia every other Thursday through Aug. 31.

The Summer Series includes the Amped in the Park, Good Kid-izen and Merriweather District Fit Series, events designed with a mix of activities that include live music, hands-on learning, dancing and more.

All events will take place at Color Burst Park at 6000 Merriweather Dr. in Columbia.

  • The Future of Learning: July 22, 10 a.m. to noon
    • Want to know more about science, technology, engineering and math? Head down to Color Burst Park for an immersive afternoon with science experiments, STEM-themed crafts, music, readings and more.
    • Programming to include:
      • Innovators Workshop: Work alongside friends and put your knowledge to the test with STEM experiments and activities.
      • Readings & Learning: Captivating readings from the Howard County Library System about STEM learning.
      • Arts & Crafts: Assemble and play with your very own DIY car and plane kits, design and build simple catapult projects and personalize your very own Rocket Ship.
      • Move & Groove: A DJ will play kid’s tunes between readings to keep the party going.
  • A Music-Filled Morning: Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to noon
    • Dance, play and sing in Color Burst Park! Enjoy a musical morning filled with dance lessons, live music and arts & crafts.
    • Programming to include:
      • Dance Lessons: Enjoy two different dance classes with simple steps for kids to move and groove.
      • Musical Morning: Enjoy live music performances while jamming out with your own instruments including tambourines, maracas, xylophones and more.
      • Arts & Crafts: Decorate your own tambourine or decorate musical note ornaments to bring the music home with you.
  • All Creatures Great & Small Celebration: Aug. 19, 10 a.m. to noon
    • Color Burst Park is celebrating our four-legged furry friends. Stop by to learn more about adoption from a local animal rescue center, a kid-friendly workshop focused on the relationship between animals and the earth and a reading from the Howard County Library System
    • Programming to include:
      • Animal Rescue Center Presentation: Enjoy a showcase from a local animal rescue center and learn about pet adoption and even apply to adopt a pet yourself.
      • Friend to the Earth Workshop: Learn from local environmentalists about how you can be a friend to your community and the earth.
      • Readings & Learning: Howard County Library System to read aloud books about the relationship between animals and the earth.
      • Crafts & Activities: Enjoy animal-themed and earth-friendly crafts. Cool off in “watering hole” pools with toys and floats.
      • Animal Dance Party: Kid-friendly tunes will keep the party going throughout the morning.

Merriweather District Fit Series

    • July 11, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Y6 101
      • The perfect class if you’re brand new to yoga or looking to ease back into your practice. Great for all levels.
    • August 1, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Y6 Power
      • Build strength, focus & flexibility in this uplifting vinyasa class. This workout will take you through a full body and mind experience, leaving you with energy and empowerment. Great for all levels.
    • August 22, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Y6101
      • The perfect class if you’re brand new to yoga or looking to ease back into your practice. Great for all levels.
  • F45 Summer Hi-Fi Class: RSVP in advance here.
    • Every other Tuesday through Aug. 15, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m.
      • Join us for an outdoor, resistance-based bodyweight workout focused on accelerating your skills through dynamic exercises and sets. The heart-pumping class will be accompanied by a live DJ.

  • Mayweather Boxing + Fitness: RSVP in advance here.
    • July 18, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Champ
      • A 60-minute workout with 5 rounds of boxing + 3 rounds of fitness with an equal balance between HIIT cardio and strength training. It’s also twinning day – make sure to bring your bestie and see double in class.
    • Aug.8, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Greatest HIITS
      • A fast-paced, 45-minute workout including 6 rounds of boxing + 2 rounds of fitness. Rep your favorite musical group by wearing a band tee.
    • August 29, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.: Strong
      • A 45-minute workout including 5 rounds of boxing + 3 rounds of fitness with a slower pace to help you focus on punching the bag with power.
