School Bus Driver Cited In Rollover Crash On US 29: Howard County Police

Police said two Mt. Hebron High School students and three adults were injured, and the school bus driver was cited.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Five people were injured in a crash involving a school bus on Route 29 Monday morning near Route 100, according to Howard County police. Officials said the school bus driver was believed to have been speeding at the time of the crash, which injured five people.

The driver of the school bus — Tyra India Wilcox, 50, of Halethorpe — was cited for negligent driving, police said. Authorities allege Wilcox was speeding.

Before 7 a.m., the school bus lost control on the exit for Route 29 north from Route 100 west and flipped onto its side, police reported. A car on Route 29 north hit the bus, according to officials.

The driver of the 2005 Toyota Matrix — Brad Steven Krakower, 33, of Ellicott City — was taken to Howard County General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police reported.

The school bus driver and school bus aide Jessica Blank, 44, of Columbia, were also taken to Howard County General with minor injuries, according to officials.

Two 15-year-old Mt. Hebron High School students on the bus were taken as a precaution with minor injuries to Johns Hopkins Hospital, authorities said.

Authorities reported that Route 29 was closed to northbound traffic until approximately 9:15 a.m.
