50th Anniversary Celebration With Art, Music Planned For Oct. 15-16 For Long Reach Village

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Celebrate Long Reach Village's 50th anniversary with free music, a fine arts and crafts show featuring 20 artists, DIY projects and oversized games. There also will be the permanent public art installation of a mural and a kids comedy and magic show.

Other merchants and arts organizations on hand include the African Art Museum, Roll Up n Dye, Columbia Art’s Center, Began Soul Bakery, Every Kid Can Cook, Power 52, Community Action Council of Howard County and more. There will be local food trucks both days, too.

Activities will take place Oct. 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event is being hosted by Columbia Festival of the Arts.

Oct. 15
5 p.m. Damon Foster – Plays his own brand of funk rock with a tinge of jazz.
6:30 p.m. Squonk Opera – Fast, funny, shameless and inclusive: an art that will include the cheap thrills of a monster truck show, as well as the fragile beauty of the hothouse flowers created in artists’ lofts.
7:15 p.m. LADAMA – A vivid montage of music of the America.

Oct. 16
11 a.m. Las Hermanas Gonzalez – Mexican Folk Music.
11:45 a.m. Dogo du Togo – A band with Togolese rhythms.
1 p.m. Chris Pierce – Recording acoustic guitarist and singer.
2:15 p.m. Squonk Opera
3 p.m. Marielle Kraft – Indie pop singer and songwriter.
4 p.m. Poet Gyle Danley – Past national and international slam poetry champion.
4:15 p.m. The JoGo Project – Fusion jazz ensemble.
5:30 p.m. Squonk Opera
6:15 p.m. The 19th Street Band – Americana, country and rock with a taste of punk.
7:30 p.m. Vanessa Collier – Blues saxophonist and singer.
