6 Charged with DUI at Sobriety Checkpoint: HoCo Police

The Howard County Police Department set up checkpoint in Savage during Labor Day weekend.

More than 1,700 people went throughĀ a sobriety checkpoint in Howard County over the weekend, which resulted in the arrest of six drivers, police said.

The sobriety checkpoint was set up on US Route 1 in Savage, between Gorman Road and Howard Street, from Saturday night to Sunday morning, according to a report from the Howard County Police Department.

The report said that 1,736 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was staffed by Maryland State Police and Howard County officers.

Six drivers were charged with driving under the influence, according to the report.

The effort was funded in part by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office and was part of a series of saturation patrols Howard County police conduct to combat drunk and drugged driving, the report said.
