HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Meet Patch's Adorable Adoptable Pets of the Week available from the Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center.

Millie is described by shelter staff as a spirited 10-month-old female Jack Russell terrier. She's a ball of energy and will need a family with Jack Russell experience to become her new forever family. Since Millie arrived at the shelter as a stray, they do not know how she will do with cats. Since she is still learning her manners, she would do best in a home where the children are older and can participate in her required obedience training, the shelter noted.

Francesca is a female long-haired kitty who reminds shelter employees of a ragdoll mix. She is approximately 9 months old and has a lovely personality, shelter staff say. She is laid back, friendly and curious, and likes when people pet her. She also likes to explore what people are working on.

Verdi is a green Parakeet who was rescued when he was seen looking for food with a flock of wild birds. The poor little guy was lost and hopped right over to his rescuer when she offered him food. Verdi has been very tolerant and a little bashfully cute. He watches you and likes to tilt his head as he listens to you, shelter staff say. He has not talked to staffers yet as he is still getting used to his surroundings.

Fred is a young male Buff Orphington rooster. He is very friendly and likes to be with people, shelter staff say. Fred has been around children and even a cat and got along with everyone. He prefers that dogs keep their distance though. Fred is ready for his forever home and looking for someone to give him a safe, outdoor area that will keep him safe from predators. He would enjoy keeping your bug population to a minimum as he forages around outside in the sunshine, shelter staff say.

Indy is a female patch tabby kitten who has lots of playful energy. She is still getting used to being touched by people, but her curiosity prompts her to keep returning to check out what you are doing. She will be your best friend if you have a string toy, shelter staff say. If you have patience and time to spend with Indy, you can show her how great it is to have people hold her and pet her.

Lulu is very smart and has learned that people can be good to her. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was so scared and didn’t understand why everyone wanted to pet her, shelter employees said. She has found her gumption and is now approaching people. She will be scared at first and would enjoy a quiet room of her own with a covered cat bed or cardboard box as her safety zone. Using a really tasty treat will also help her get used to you. She would do well in a quiet adult home or a home with older children who understand to move slowly around her. She also would do well with another kitty who is friendly and can show her how great kitty life can be. Lulu is just a baby at about 10 weeks old, shelter staff said.
